Developing innovative, new approaches to solve the world’s greatest energy and climate challenges
The Energy Institute at The University of Texas at Austin supports research, education and innovation across the entire spectrum of energy—how it's produced, moved and used—coordinating the world-class expertise of more than 450 energy scholars in colleges, schools, departments and research centers.

Fostering Path-Breaking Research
The Energy Institute supports interdisciplinary research initiatives that draw from the deep expertise among faculty and other researchers and fosters partnerships with industry, government, non-profit organizations and others interested in solving pressing energy issues.

Informing the Public Discourse
One of the Institute’s core principles is to produce credible research that informs policymakers and the public discourse on vital energy issues such as energy production, energy demand and use, energy systems and transactions, both domestically and internationally.

Educating the Energy Leaders of Tomorrow
The Energy Institute is engaged in a variety of initiatives, including energy-themed programs of study, workshops and symposia, fellowships, and interaction with the news media and other public communications. The intent of these and other activities is to educate the energy leaders of tomorrow and promote greater energy literacy among the general public.

Catalyzing Entrepreneurship and Innovation
The Energy Institute supports UT's energy innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem through seed research, and educational partnerships with Genesis—UT Austin's student startup investment fund—the Jon Brumley Texas Venture Labs (TVL), and the TEX-E program, which empowers students and enables collaboration to accelerate energy and climate tech innovation and commercialization.
