American Farmland Trust’s Smart Solar Specialist

Garrett Bader has served as American Farmland Trust’s Smart Solar Specialist since 2023, leading efforts to integrate solar energy development with farmland conservation across Texas. He works with stakeholders to advance Smart Solar strategies that support solar development while maintaining productive agricultural landscapes. He provides technical guidance to farmers and landowners and developed a training curriculum that prepares agriculture and conservation professionals to support landowners interested in integrating agricultural production within solar installations. He became an American Solar Grazing Association (ASGA) Certified Solar Grazier in May 2024. Garrett brings a lifelong connection to agriculture to his work. Raised in rural Texas, he spent more than a decade raising pigs and cattle and has been a beekeeper for over ten years. He combines this firsthand agricultural experience with five years of professional experience in the solar and energy storage industry prior to joining AFT. Garrett holds a BS in Sociology from Texas A&M University and a MA in Geography from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
