The Energy Institute Welcomes KOSPO as its Newest Industry Partner

Through this collaboration, Korea Southern Power (KOSPO) joins a select group of industry, academic, and philanthropic organizations who collaborate with the Energy Institute to ideate, design, and deliver new energy solutions through education, entrepreneurship, and research.

“Our partnership with KOSPO expands upon the global reach of UT’s research and education ecosystem,” said Brian Korgel, Rashid Engineering Regents Chair Professor in the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering and director of the Energy Institute. “KOSPO’s deep expertise in power generation, technical innovation, workforce development, and mentorship will enrich our core strategy of facilitating engagement, education, and research opportunities that prepare students to lead transformative change in energy systems at local, national, or international scales.”

KOSPO, as one of Korea’s leading public power generation companies, has been playing a pivotal role in ensuring a stable electricity supply while spearheading the transition toward future energy through the expansion of eco-friendly and clean energy. In particular, our continuous efforts to expand clean energy and achieve carbon neutrality are closely aligned with the Energy Institute’s mission to develop innovative solutions to the world’s greatest energy and climate challenges.

“Through this collaboration, KOSPO will be able to work closely with UT Austin in nurturing and exchanging talent,” said Ki-hong, Kim, Vice President of Personnel Department at KOSPO. “By engaging with world-class faculty, a vibrant research community, and an outstanding student talent pool, we will cultivate the next generation of energy leaders and contribute to building a sustainable and clean energy future.”

The Energy Institute serves as the university’s hub for energy innovation and engagement, connecting more than 450 energy faculty and researchers across UT with a growing network of partners spanning government, startups, philanthropy, and industry.
