Today FERC unanimously terminated the Proposed Rule on Grid Reliability and Resilience Pricing that had been submitted to the commission by the secretary of energy. This Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) had been the object of much scrutiny and ridicule as a blatant subsidy for uneconomic coal-fired power plants. FERC had until Wednesday to issue a ruling but, by issuing it two days early, seemed to want to just get it over with. The release is somewhat anticlimactic in that it aligned with what analysts had consistently recommended for months and there was no bitter fight, as some had anticipated.
