UT Austin held its third Campus Sustainability Week October 23 – 27, with visits to green buildings, a tour of the university’s energy efficient power plant system, lectures, workshops informational lunches, and more.

The Office of Sustainability again organized the week’s events, which also included a guided exploration of Waller Creek and a tour of Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium.

UT Austin was one of the first institutions of higher education in Texas to implement a comprehensive Campus Sustainability Policy, in 2008. The plan encompasses future academic, operations, campus planning, administration, outreach and implementation efforts. The university is ranked among the U.S.’ 375 greenest colleges, according to the Princeton Review.

Ongoing programs include the creation of green labs and offices, diversion of 90% of total waste into recycling by 2020, and implementation of a Green Fee grant program for sustainability-related projects.
