Making the grade: UT Austin student hits Forbes 30 Under 30 list for energy movers and shakers

UT Austin Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering student Karan Jerath made the 2016 Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the energy and resources category for his work in developing a containment device that captures oil and gas escaping from a blowout well. The device, originally created for Jerath’s high school science fair, has the potential to contain large flow rates and combat the formation of methane hydrates; it also can separate oil, water and gas as homogeneous mixtures at the source, allowing them to be recycled and stored.
