UT Austin Chemical Engineering Prof. Brian Korgel has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering for his work in the synthesis and applications of nanocrystals, nanowires and their assemblies. Korgel’s fundamental breakthroughs in nanomaterials have had significant technical and commercial impact and led to the creation of Pinon Technologies and Innovalight, both of which were purchased by DuPont in 2011. As director of UT’s Center for Next Generation Photovoltaics, Korgel holds numerous awards, including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the Professional Progress Award, the Nanoscale Science and Engineering Forum Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the O’Donnell Award in Engineering from The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas.
