UT Austin’s Gulf Coast Carbon Center (GCCC) has received a grant of $3.3 million from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory Carbon Storage Program to demonstrate whether CO2 can be stored under the ocean floor in portions of the Gulf of Mexico that have been drilled for oil and natural gas. Dr. Tip Meckel, research scientist at the GCCC, within the Jackson School of Geosciences’ Bureau of Economic Geology, will lead the research project. For more, read an article in Climate Central.
