While climate change is suspected to be weakening and killing corals around the world, new research from UT Austin has found that corals that prefer to go it alone may fare better than those that reside in reefs. A new paper published by Anna Weiss, a Ph.D. candidate in UT’s Jackson School of Geosciences, along with her advisor Rowan Martindale, could provide direction on where modern reef conservation efforts should be focused. Their work, based on a survey of coral species that survived a period of warming in Earth’s past, reveals clues about the climate change impacts of today. Read more.
