Bio: Lesley Jantarasami leads the Bipartisan Policy Center’s federal policy efforts on deep decarbonization, clean energy standards, and natural climate solutions. She brings over 10 years’ policy experience at the state and federal levels. Previously, she led energy and climate initiatives at the Oregon Department of Energy and worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on climate impacts assessments, adaptation initiatives, and national greenhouse gas regulations in the transportation and power sectors. She served as a chapter lead author for the Fourth National Climate Assessment and the U.S. Climate and Health Assessment. Lesley earned her bachelor’s degree from Duke University and Master of Science and Master of Public Administration degrees from University of Washington.

Abstract: In this talk, Lesley Jantarasami shares key takeaways from the Decarb America Research Initiative’s analysis of policy and technology pathways for the United States to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. How can the world’s largest economy “decarbonize” in just three decades? What will it take? And how can we go about it in a way that protects American workers, keeps our economy strong, and preserves our nation’s global leadership in technology and innovation? Results from in-depth analyses will advance understanding of the impacts, tradeoffs, investment needs, and opportunities that lie ahead as our nation and the world enter a critical period to address climate change and transition to clean energy systems. Empowering policymakers with the information and tools they’ll need to make smart decisions is essential for success.
