Rob Threlkeld, Director of Global Energy Strategy for General Motors

Speaker Biography

Rob Threlkeld is Director Global Energy Strategy for General Motors (GM), leading the company’s energy strategy efforts that range from renewables procurement, clean technology, and policy efforts related to grid decarbonization. This includes the commitment to meet the electricity needs of its global operations with 100 percent renewable energy by 2035. Threlkeld is responsible for leading that team that reviews and integrates decarbonization technology, including opportunities associated with battery storage, behind-the-meter applications and EV integration. Threlkeld is a board member of the Clean Energy Buyer’s Association (CEBA) where he serves as vice-chair as well as formerly serving on the Board of American Clean Power (ACP). He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Purdue University. He is a registered Certified Hazardous Material Manager, Certified Energy Manager and Business Energy Professional.

Abstract

GM’s Path to an All Electric Zero Emission Future focuses on a 4 Pillar effort, taking a direction from GM’s successful plan to achieve 100% renewable energy across our global operations. Those pillars include improving energy efficiency and sourcing renewables for operations and products. Pillar 3 focuses on energy storage via a products and services while Pillar 4 emphasizes GM’s scale and efforts on the policy front. Recently GM joined a couple partnerships with important links to the 4 Pillar effort, the Virtual Power Plant Partnership and Emissions First Partnership. These partnerships leverage all 4 Pillars to drive everyday solutions that benefit our customers. This is an exciting time for the automotive industry as we disrupt ourselves and creating new models and products for everyday transportation.
