Riffat Manasia is Director of Research Coordination & Partnerships for the Energy Institute. In this role, Riffat will develop, implement, and manage EI’s research catalysis, interactions, and ideation programs for interactive and creative value and maximum efficiency. Riffat joins the Energy Institute after a decade and half working in senior management in international development, strategy, consulting, applied research & analysis, social impact, and entrepreneurship globally.
She began her career by founding and scaling MRA in Kabul, Afghanistan, a leading research and consulting organization for international agencies, US and European governments, US military and NATO focused on development in zones of conflict and extreme poverty before pivoting into social impact, entrepreneurship, and impact investing as CEO of agile non-profits in Houston, Washington DC, and Zurich.
With MRA, Riffat designed and ran large-scale empirical research & evaluations, leveraging findings for major programs and policies, with her work directly impacting efforts by US government, DoD, DoS, UN, and other major stakeholders. As head of two non-profits, she has created and executed multi-year strategies for scaling and impact, led multiple programs, projects, and high impact events, and built strong partnerships across stakeholders. In Washington DC, Riffat led research and monitoring teams in Syria where her work directly impacted programs and policies for the administration, US agencies, and informed other stakeholders.
Riffat holds a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a multi-disciplinary Master from Harvard in Urban Planning (GSD) and International Development (HKS, HBS). Raised in Texas, she is glad to finally call Austin her home.
